Been using KDx for a couple months and am a huge fan. I have a suggestion to provide the user with the option to disable the Active Module function, at least in the AN-X engine.
The Active Module function is a great way of solving the problem of the AWM2 and FM-X engines being far too deep for most physical MIDI controllers to reasonably be able to handle, by breaking it down to the element/operator level.
However, I’ve been using a hardware synth (Roland System-8) to program AN-X sounds, and while it’s definitely an improvement, I feel like the Active Module feature actually limits the potential of this approach. It works great for envelope, filter, and other “part-level” functions. On the other hand, most hardware synths have several per-oscillator controls and an oscillator mixer, but they can’t be used properly as KDx shares the CCs across the three oscillators due to the Active Module model. If the oscillator-level controls were separated, this would allow for much closer to knob-per-function control when using a hardware synth as a controller and greatly improve the experience in my opinion.
Please let me know what you think!
